Our Christmas Wish List
As children we used to labor over writing and re-writing our Christmas gift wish list for Santa. What if as adults some magical mysterious power would grant us the wishes on holiday gift lists? What would make it onto that precious sheet of paper? Would it be long or brief? Self-focused or global in nature?
Here are some of what would make it onto my list -in no particular order of importance-only in the order in which they came to me.
-The evolution of our wounded world to one where hate is not given a home.
-As these days grow shorter and shorter and light in all of its manifestations seems scarce, that we take seriously our role of being the light in times of darkness.
-When winter digs in its heels, as it has already on Thanksgiving weekend with relentless snowfalls, that we be grateful for the opportunity of the quietness that these months give to the land and to us.
-That generosity and kindness become the most important gifts that we give or receive.
-That our transition from being the “keepers of the Rustic Gate” is a peaceful, a grateful, and
a joyful time.
-That warmth and hospitality continue to be the cornerstone of life here at the Inn.
-That to love and to be loved is recognized as the greatest gift and far surpasses any packages
under the tree.
-That like our pine trees we become more capable of shifting in various directions with the wind, having the realization that rigidity is futile because it can break us.
We live as best we can and hope that even a small fraction of this wish list comes true.
In closing I’d like to bless this year and the 20 years that preceded it here at the Inn, and with a grateful heart to all of you who have made that possible I say “Thank you for being part of our lives here.”
Wishing you and your families the happiest of holiday seasons. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
